W zeszłym tygodniu mieliśmy przyjemność poznać Katie Drane - woluntariuszkę z Australii, która będzie współtworzyła i prowadziła lekcje języka angielskiego w naszych szkołach w II semestrze 2011/2012. Oto kilka słów od Katie o pierwszych wrażeniach z pobytu w Polsce.
Poland
Chapter 1:
Four weeks have gone already! It seemed like just last weekend that all the Lattitude volunteers had waved goodbye to friends, family and country to begin a new year with a fresh new start.
While none of us knew one another as we left the country, the insane amount of airtime, as well as the training week in Warszawa, certainly gave us enough time to form new friends and connections as we went to our separate corners of the country.
The longer I spend in Poland the more I notice that it can seem so similar in some aspects, and yet so different in others. Setting aside the obvious language and weather differences (I have never seen snow before I came here), it’s little things like driving on the opposite side of the road, the jumbo sized light switches, enjoying two breakfasts and having paper money that stand out. Then I’ll see a sign for a BP and Wild Bean Café or eat corn flakes for pre-breakfast and I realise things really aren’t that different after all.
While things may seem a little unsteady at first, half the fun is in finding your feet and one of the best and most fulfilling ways is in doing something you know. Although I’ve never taught a class before, or created a lesson plan, speaking English comes pretty naturally to me so hopefully I can help and encourage students to improve on their skills while enjoying every minute.
